Had to drop PC gaming altogether due to a disability (getting old sucks), so I got myself a Steam Deck, slowly going through my library and writing short reviews and - if necessary - forum posts / tickets regarding compatibility, best settings and Proton version etc.
My reviews are often WIP at first because I have to compose them like that over time while testing and experimenting with a game. So check back again an hour, the next day or two if you'd like, for more detailed/adequate information (did I mention already that getting old sucks?).
I'm also trying to support small devs wherever I can, since my dream of releasing my own game went under the bus and then again with the bus in reverse.

After 10 years, countless hours and the game in beta now, it's probably time to write a review.
I've played and liked a couple of game dev games over the years, but I always felt they all were missing complexity and thus freedom (as someone who's worked in software development for many years).
Then Software Inc. came around the corner and I fell in love instantly. And I still am, even though I can't play on PC anymore. Playing it on Deck with trackpads works surprisingly well (you might want to increase right track pad sensitivity, or check my shared, track pad centered community layout with all Deck buttons configured), text is readable and especially with mods, it's got all the complexity you could want in a sim like that.
Clear recommendation if you feel at home in UI heavy applications and like managing all the things.

TL;DR: Play on Deck with GE-Proton9-27 or newer if you want to enjoy it. It's good and gets better with every new release.

Plays good on Deck, even has a dedicated Deck gfx preset that's capped to 30FPS (set Deck to 30FPS as well to get rid of tearing), but there's definitely room for tweaking if you know how. That's a big plus from my pov. Mostly runs acceptably fine, smooth and looks good on high settings (shadows and world medium) with FSR3 set to Quality, Zoom to 80%. Sometimes it still drops far below 30, especially during car and heli pursuits. Valves Proton (v9 ans well as Experimental) is noticeably inferior running this game compared to GE-Proton stable and beta, so it's a must play with GE from my POV.

Others will lament that they can't run it high speed on their power hungry 144Hz 4k toy because the game that's made by a small team isn't as optimized yet (and probably never will be) as the ~Tripple A~ titles they normally feel superior at. But why care about numbers if you actually can have fun by just playing the game already?

After playing American Fugitive (vsync doesn't work again, either tame the engine or - better choice by far - finally drop Unity for 3D games and switch to UE, v4 even) and the pre-alpha demo, I had hopes for this one, and I'd say they've delivered. Moving release date for giving it more polishing time was the right decision. You can feel the improvements from the demo in many little details.
Writing is fine and voice acting decent, it's definitely got this over the top charm of 80's movies.
Bundle options are also much appreciated, giving someone who likes and plays Patrol Officers a fine arcade variety. For example, during pursuits you can crash through virtually everything that normally would slow you down or bring you to a sudden full stop - except buildings of course -, which keeps the velocity and fun up.

Release day problems on Deck so far:
- Hotfixed | Crackling audio, sometimes real heavy, sometimes almost none
- Better with Hotfix | Needs more optimization work to iron out the frame drops
- Minor bugs in AI and dynamic case system (tip: you can always quit the current case via right radial menu as a last straw)
- While it runs fine in game mode, it's causing problems if started from desktop in Big Picture right now, like not exiting gracefully etc.
- Setting gfx preset to custom doesn't persist to next start, it's always set back to Deck preset right now and you have to switch back to custom
- Vsync again doesn't work, so cap Deck as well as game to 30 in any case

But it's rather minor things really that surely will get fixed with time.

If you want this game to shine and can afford it, I'd recommend supporting it. There's definitely good potential for more in the future in there.
