Problem with Xbox One controller and remote play
Recently I bought a new TV which has Steam app. I tried to play Rocket League and everything worked well. On that time my controller was connected to PC with Bluetooth.

Today I connected my controller to TV (TV has Bluetooth) and I tried to test other games.
I found out my controller has wrong button mapping. This didn't happen when controller was wirelessly connected to PC (Bluetooth). When I have the problem, controller is connected with Bluetooth to TV and remote play over WiFi.

TV finds my controller and recognizes it right. The same with Steam Link and Steam on my PC. On big picture settings it's visible with name Xbox One controller (unregistered).

So how my controller acts? For example, some of menu buttons are on left joystick. Mouse moves down when you press right trigger and goes back to top when you release the trigger. Logo button doesn't open Steam in-game menu. Arrow buttons works well, so left joystick. But other buttons has wrong button mapping.

I tried to reconfigure my controller with remapping on controller settings, but the form didn't let me to set any controller's buttons.
I tried different settings on big screen settings but nothing changed. Tried to enable and disable different controller supports etc.
I also registered my controller from big screen settings.

What I could try next? I'm kinda lost right now because I don't know what I should try next. I want my Xbox controller to work correctly via TV.

Hi, I have the same problem. How did you solve it?

Everytime when I want to play on TV, I need unpair bluetooth connection, re-pair and then controller should work correctly with Steam Link app

Thx for the tip. This is the only option for me right now.

Did you find another solution? It's exhausting having to re-pair each time I want to play.
Thanks.

Send mail to Samsung so they would fix the issue.

I did it and they said that is a Valve issue. That it's the responsable for their software. In fact, my gamepad works in the samsung menu.

Hi,

I have bought the xbox one controller pack with the wireless adapter and I cannot get it to work with my steam games.

Placing a cable I have managed to navigate the menu, but also not play.

How did you do it with the original Microsoft wireless adapter?

Should we do something specific?

Help me

I was able to do it around one month ago. Now i am not able to do it work. What I do is connect the dongle in the PC instead of the TV and it works fine for me.

Hi all,

I have the same issue. Did someone already find a solution for that?

I'm having the same issue, one more workaround for me that's using a USB cable.
My controller is Xbox One S
1. Connect controller via bluetooth.
2. Open steam link and connect to your PC.
3. See that your buttons are messed up.
4. Plug the USB cable into your TV and connect it with the controller.
5. Verify that controller's buttons are mapped correctly.
6. Unplug the USB cable from the controller and use it normally via Bluetooth.
I find this solution is faster than re-pairing devices via bluetooth.
But ffs aren't they gonna do anything about this?

What do you mean by "Enter host machine via Steam Link"?

i'm using the Xbox One BT controller for the records.
I've tried to follow this multiple times with several USB cables but it didn't work. Maybe i'm doing something wrong, but i've noticed that the buttons gets messed up most of the times only when i launch a game.
I've tried to plug in the cable with a game loaded and actually Steam says has loaded the Xbox One Controller config but the pad becomes unresponsive.. if i unplug it works again but still with messed up buttons.
Anyway, sad to see this issue exist since this long.. i recently bought a 2020 QLED Samsung TV Also it's very annoying that removing and re-pairing, at least to me, fails a lot of times and i'm stuck waiting for the TV to find the controller for minutes.

@BlackkStar, I updated steps below. Hope that it's more clear now. I'm using Xbox One S bluetooth.
I believe that the button are messed up right in the steam big picture mode, it's just that you didn't use the messed up buttons that often. For example the search button for search in steam big picture mode is label as X or Y button (I can't remember it correctly), but when you press that button, it does something else.
While connecting the controller to TV via bluetooth, I plug a usb cable to connect the TV and the controller. After that my buttons are mapped correctly then I unplug the usb cable and use controller in bluetooth normally.
