Steam Link

Steam Link

Steam Link only mirroring programs from one GPU
- INTRO -
I recently tried using my Steam Link (I own the actual, physical model) to mirror my laptop after a long time. It used to work as expected, but now I'm running into an issue with remote play/streaming.

- SETUP -
Operating System: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
iGPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630
dGPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX2060 Mobile

- ISSUE -
When using Remote Play on the Steam Link to broadcast my desktop, the screen is black. The cursor is able to be seen moving but only if the Steam program is maximized (you still can't see the Steam program). When the Steam program is minimized, I can't see the cursor moving.

However, Steam Big Picture is visible and works.

Any program that is running on my iGPU is not visible. My desktop environment/xorg is running on my iGPU.

When I force my desktop environment/xorg to run on my dGPU (not ideal for battery life) I was able to see my desktop.

This means when I launch a game that will run on my dGPU it's visible as well.

- EXPECTED -
I would expect that any program running on any graphics card would be visible. This means Steam games running on my dGPU should be visible, and when I tab to Firefox running on my iGPU I should see that as well.

I also can't seem to find a way to select which graphics card is visible. I would expect that option if this was the intended outcome.

- UNRELATED -
I'm not sure if it's in my head, but it looks like the visual quality and lag is noticeably better than it used to be. Props to whoever is managing this!

If I'm missing any information or misinterpreting anything, please let me know.

Update:

This does not appear to be a dGPU vs iGPU issue. If I force my computer to use either the iGPU or dGPU, it does not work. I'm honestly unsure of what is causing this issue.

laptops always use the intel hd/uhd, even when game are using the nvidia gpu

the nvidia gpu writes to the intel hd/uhd frame buffer for the intel hd/uhd to display the image

in remote play settings, use intel, not nvidia or nvbfc or hevc
