Wrong Save loading Duel Monsters 1
I saved my game instead of using the auto save when fighting Kaiba at some point, I was probably tired after grinding wins for Blue Eyes. I had progressed to Simon and went on to beat Pegasus 5 times to the END GAME credits. But now when I load my game it sets me back to a time when I just beat Kiaba 68 times. Unless I select LOAD GAME from the collection menu which happened to be on Simons select screen before fighting him(The difference of several hours of game time and no Blue Eyes). Does anyone know if I can I get my LOAD GAME save to be my default file when I launch Duel Monsters 1? I Tried loading the file, triggering autosave, then exiting, but then it just loads back to the earlier save.

I'm a bit unclear about how to trigger the autosave myself. I had to grind for a "third" copy of Sogen for my warrior deck because I found out after getting the second copy that it instead used an old save where I'd only beaten Junouchi ~22 times instead of over 40.

Even as I type this I have to load every time I open up DM1 because guess what outdated battery save I'm still stuck with unless I use the built-in savestates?

I haven't figured a solution yet, but did send a Support ticket to Konami with this question and awaiting a response. I even tried manipulating the Save data in .\AppData\Roaming\Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection, by deleting the .bsav file and .st1 files while the game was running and trying to trigger an auto save but it did nothing.

Another issue I found is with this, I cannot restart the game after beating Pegasus 5 times and fight Yami Yugi. Which is a bummer since I was enjoying my time with this game and wanted to beat everyone till I moved on to the sequel. Probably even farm Exodia and use his win at least once.
World Championship Tournament 2005 also has Saving Game problems...when we save the game manually the Unlocked/Collected cards in our Trunk get saved but our edited Decks DON'T get saved (Sleeping in our bed to save the game normally works...I think...)

I got a response from Konami support.

"Unfortunately, it does not appear we currently have a solution for your situation, however, I will report the issue.

Your report will be forwarded to the appropriate team. Unfortunately, we will not be able to update you on any decisions that may result from your report."

So maybe this is something that can be addressed in an update. If it is not an intended feature. We shall see I suppose. I will move on to Duel Monsters 2.

I'm on Switch and have this problem too. First time I encountered it, I exited the game between duels to make sure it was working. I was able to do this and unlock Yami Yugi. But now the autosave has been wonky and that method doesn't seem to work anymore.

I did notice something. If you continue from the autosave point, it does seem to function again. But once you load from your save state and autosave from there, the previous progress you made before loading the save state gets lost. I'm wondering if the rewind feature is affecting this particular title in some way because you can rewind back to between the point of starting up the game and loading the save state.

I messaged Digital Eclipse on their Facebook and Twitter pages but no response.

I streamed the game and got this exact glitch except I never used the cheat to give myself cards. After looking through the stream around the time my autosave stopped working I noticed something; I opened the options menu and saved manually DURING AN AUTOSAVE. I believe that manual saving (or perhaps just opening the menu) during an autosave is what causes it to break.

So, when you load the game natively, is it at the point where it last saved automatically before the one that overlapped with the manual save? If so, that does explain something. I haven't gotten through enough of the other games in the collection, but it seems DM1 is the only game with this problem.

Wow, they ... probably should not have allowed the player to open up the menu during an autosave.

Thanks for tracking the issue for us!
While my guess seemed plausible it was incorrect.

The REAL cause of the autosave bug is fusing two cards to obtain Gaia Fierce Knight. Not the card you get from beating Yugi 100 times though, that's perfectly safe to use.

I just made a big post with a lot more detail of things I've found in my testing.
